Whites Xlt

The Whites XLT is a high end metal detector from Whites Electronics being one of their more popular models. Some of the features the XLT comes equipped with are 5 turn on and go programs, automatic ground balance, a waterproof 9.5 inch coil, slide in battery system that lasts for up to 15 hours of detecting, and a pretty cool SignaGraph technology which means "What's in the ground is on the screen." The White's XLT also comes with a two year warranty as of this writing which covers all labor and parts.

For anybody that already owns a White's XLT you might want to check out the
Whites UK Site where they have over a half dozen custom programs for the XLT. Great programs that explain how to adjust the settings on your XLT for specific programs such as the "Boots Blaster", "Standard Hunter", and "Roman Hunter". The programs go into detail of the settings describing specifics on programming the speed, auto trac, offset, discrimination and more. For sure a valuable bookmark for any XLT detectorist.
Garys Detecting has a review of the White's XLT by Mick Harvey which is very favorable. Mick explains how to get more depth out of the XLT in certain soil types, and a few other tips on achieving greater depth, and says even a novice should be able to master the detector. The review concludes with saying "pound for pound hand on heart the Whites XLT is the best machine I have ever used", wow! That's not all though, if you scroll all the way down the review you will find Gary's custom XLT program including every setting and offers some advice on using the program.
Lost Treasure Magazine has a review of the White's Spectrum XLT calling it impressive. They like the mechanical packaging, programs, discrimination control, excellent metering system, the signagraph display, and VDI number. The XLT review also has a field test discussing some of the great finds they made with the XLT. In conclusion they say "White's Spectrum XLT is a modern marvel of electronic and mechanical engineering."
JB's Metal Detecting site has the largest list of XLT programs I've seen (Note, they are listed as for the spectrum model). There appears to be over 40 custom programs for detecting with the XLT, even geographically categorized by the location the program was created for and tested at. Some of the great program names include "Chubbie Checker", "Bushwack", "Extra Depth Silver", and the "Minolta". Definitely a must bookmark for any XLT user wanting to see how others have used the detector for best results in before, and get some ideas for your own custom XLT programs.

Exploring further at
JB's Metal Detecting I see a page on XLT tips. Once again these are for the Spectrum series, however a must bookmark for anybody looking to see what's been done with the XLT or are looking for ideas for their own XLT tweaking. Most of the links on this page are old and dead, however scroll down a bit for the real XLT information. Tips include mixed mode tips, how the XLT "reads the ground", backyard experiments, discrimination ideas, multiple coin shooting advice, and even some tips on hunting for Roman coins with the XLT.

Forgot to link the
Whites Electronics page on the XLT. They've actually done a good job providing some info on the features features of the XLT with a few bonus information nuggets. Besides finding a link to details on the XLT's two year warranty, you can also find some screen shots of the XLT's display, some recommended accessories, a digital copy of the manual in case you want a back up copy, and even an interactive demo of using the XLT which is rather interesting. Additionally you can also find a comparison chart of Whites detectors to see how the XLT's features stack up against the other White's models.
Metal Detector Reviews has 20 reviews of the Whites Spectrum XLT giving the detector a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. There are two negative reviews that say the XLT is too difficult to use and is definitely not for the beginning metal detectorist. The other 18 reviews are mostly favorable with some listing various hunting tips with the XLT and the best ones of all detailing the finds they've made with their Whites Spectrum XLT.
